Location: Oakland, CA Category: Faculty Posted On: Wed Dec 6 2017 Job Description: The Sociology Program at Mills College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Adjunct Professor in Sociology specializing in one of the following fields: Health, Criminal Justice, Media and Popular Culture, Racial and Gender Discrimination, Immigration, or Urban Sociology. The successful candidate will have evidence of exemplary teaching and a proven track record of mentoring and working with undergraduate students. The Assistant Adjunct Professor will be responsible for teaching 5 courses per year, advising undergraduate students, and other departmental service to be determined.

This is a one academic year renewable contract position to begin in August 2018.

The Sociology program highlights community engaged learning opportunities, creative intellectual work, and close mentorship with students. Job Requirements:Candidates should have:

  • A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD are also eligible to apply.
  • Experience teaching courses at the undergraduate level
  • Exceptional pedagogical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work with a diverse and dynamic student population

Additional Information:This is a full-time exempt position. Salary is $60,000 per year, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance/403(b) retirement plan, 12 sick days and 10 paid holidays annually.
